Conservatories add the most value to your home

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Ever wondered how to add the most value to your home?? It is not by installing a new kitchen or bathroom, but by having a new conservatory. A conservatory immediately increases the usable amount of space in your home and adds a whole new room downstairs. They are multi-purpose and can be used as a playroom, office or even a gym.

Because houses are now being valued on the amount of space measured in square feet rather than number of bedrooms, adding extra floor space has become more important, and therefore more of a selling point than refitting a kitchen or a bathroom.

There are many ways to improve and increase the value of your home. On average, a newly fitted kitchen can add around £7000, whereas a conservatory can add around £14000 to the value.

Windows and Double Glazing replacement Guide

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Replacing windows can completely change the look and visual appearance of your property. There is a huge selection of windows for all budgets and you need to make sure you purchase the best possible option.

There are a range of different windows available, but the main things you need to consider are:
• Visual Appearance
• Safety
• Maintenance
• Budget

Visual Appearance
When deciding on your windows, one of the best ways is to compare similar houses in your neighbourhood and check which type of windows have been used. This is particularly important when you are considering fitting PVCu windows to older properties.

Safety
As always, safety should play a big part in your decision, and so the more fire exits you have, the better. There are a range of locks and security features that can be fitted, both standard and extra, so it is important to carfeully explore all of the options. A lot of modern double glazed windows now come with the ‘multi-point’ espagnolette’ type locking. This allows the window to open fully, and also have a night vent position for security.

Maintenance
Maintaining some windows can be quite hard work, especially if you have a busy lifestyle. You will need to paint timber frames every 3-5 years or, if you are using hardwood, varnish or oil the windows as appropriate. Aluminium and uPVC frames are nearly maintenance free and only need wiping every now and again with a damp cloth.

Budget
Your budget will influence your decision on which windows to purchase, so getting the right balance of appearance, safety and maintenance will be your main objective. Simpler windows with less fire escapes and openings will be cheaper, however you will be compromising on safety. Firstly you will need to ask yourself, which is the most important aspect – safety, appearance or maintenance.

Please feel free to give us a call or fill in our online enquiry form.
